STROKES 4A.1, 4A.2, 4A.3, AND 4A.4: This stroke is added as the hand is returning alongside the fi fth metatarsal, on its way toward Stroke 1A. As the thenar eminence nears the base of the toes, the thumb glides over the foot, toward the arch. It continues to move medially, the fi ngers coming to rest on the top of the foot. The thumb describes a circle on the arch itself, ending on the ball of the foot (fi rst metatarsalphallangeal joint). Without stopping, it continues distally along the great toe.
