It's time to sort those
receipts, look at the
year's bank statements,
and make sense of it
all. You might have an
easier time than most
if you've kept yourself
organized all year.
A small accordion fi le
is a great way to keep
receipts and invoices in
order throughout the
year and a way to avoid
an accountant's worst
headache: the dreaded
shoebox full of crumpled
paper. (Remember,
just because you don't
organize it doesn't mean
someone else doesn't
have to—and that isn't
free! What does your
tax preparer charge per
hour?) Label the dividers
for the categories you
need: Rent, Utilities,
Business Equipment,
Business Supplies, Travel,
Education, etc. File your
receipts right away, or at
least at the end of each
month, to make tax time
a no-stress time.
