Federal Rules Could
Impact Schools
Across the Country
The US Department of Education
(USDOE) proposed rules in May
that would allegedly protect
students against unmanageable
debt by terminating access to
federal financial aid for career
training programs. While protecting
students from debt burdens seems
like a welcome idea, the USDOE's
debt-to-earnings ratio doesn't
accurately interpret massage
professionals' income—as it varies
widely per person—and the
rules as they are currently written
would effectively prevent schools
from offering financial aid. ABMP
reminds therapists and students of
the importance of advocating for
the massage therapy profession,
which includes speaking out when
the data doesn't paint the full
picture.
