NEWS NOTES compiled by Brandon Twyford Editor, Online and Digital Strategy | brandon@abmp.com WELLNESS NOW A $4.2 TRILLION INDUSTRY The world wellness market grew 12.8 percent in just the last two years—from a $3.7 trillion industry in 2015 to $4.2 trillion in 2017, according to the 2018 Global Wellness Economy Monitor report. For context, the wellness industry grew 6.4 percent annually, nearly twice as fast as global economic growth (3.6 percent) from 2015–2017. Consumer spending on wellness ($4.2 trillion) is now more than half as much as total global health expenditures ($7.3 trillion). Every one of the 10 wellness sectors clocked strong recent growth. The report, which features more global, national, and regional data and analysis, is available on the Global Wellness Institute website at www.globalwellnessinstitute.org/industry- research/2018-global-wellness-economy-monitor. MASSAGE & BODYWORK WINS FOLIO AWARD FOR BEST FULL ISSUE Folio recently announced the winners of the 2018 Folio Eddie and Ozzie Awards at the Folio: Show in New York. The March/April 2018 issue of Massage & Bodywork magazine took home the award for Best Full Issue (Association). As the publisher of Massage & Bodywork, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) is honored to be recognized for this prestigious award. "We are particularly proud of this issue because it addresses touch for frail and elderly clients," said Darren Buford, editor-in-chief. "From helping our readers learn how to build a practice for this clientele to the status of hospice massage to the particularly poignant piece by Lauren Cates titled 'Death, Dying, and the Breakability of Us All,' we hope our readers are able to connect with this very important demographic." For more than 20 years, the Eddie & Ozzie Awards have recognized excellence in magazine editorial and design across all sectors of the industry. A panel of more than 300 judges narrowed more than 2,500 entries into a pool of roughly 800 finalists. In total, 263 awards were given out across 33 categories. (Hint: ABMP's insurance is the good kind.) From the intro to Massage Business Blueprint podcast episode 185: "Most discussions we see about liability insurance focus on the annual price. But that is the worst metric for choosing insurance. It's time to learn the difference between occurrence and claims-made policies, darn it. I promise, you'll thank us later."
