Studies of sciatic pain, back pain, irritable bowel syndrome, and other painful conditions have shown that treatments from practitioners who are perceived as caring and warm result in significantly higher levels of lasting pain relief, compared with similar treatments from practitioners seen as businesslike or uncaring.
