editor's note Lucky '13 One of my favorite Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes is: "Good luck is another name for tenacity of purpose." We at Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) are tenacious about ensuring our members' success in 2013. We've just invested a great deal of brainpower in updating our member database and your online resources. Have you logged in to www.abmp.com lately to peruse the wealth of online practicebuilding assets available for you? You have access to an easy-touse, state-of-the-art website builder, a customizable client newsletter, fresh photographs for your marketing materials, a new issue of the digital Body Sense magazine you can forward to your clients, the ABMP Online Education Center, and on and on. You tell us Massage & Bodywork is your favorite ABMP member benefit—thank you. We work hard to make sure it fuels your efforts and meets your needs. And we're very proud of winning a national FOLIO: Magazine award for best digital trade magazine. As you flip through the print issue, you'll find your reimagined Different Strokes member newsletter. This enhanced partnership between Massage & Bodywork and Different Strokes combines everything you need to read in one convenient package, and we know you'll appreciate the environmentally friendly decision we've made to eliminate the plastic wrap covering. We've dedicated a chunk of this issue to a fresh start for your practice. To kick off your year, we also have new Business Side columnists: ABMP President Les Sweeney and ABMP Education Facilitator Kristin Coverly. This dynamic duo will keep you learning (and smiling) on your way to success. Their columns will enhance the online ABMP BizFit resources with which you're hopefully already familiar. So, yes, Mr. Emerson, luck comes readily to those who prepare for it! We at ABMP and Massage & Bodywork are ready for lucky '13. Are you? Leslie A. Young, Editor in Chief leslie@abmp.com 8 massage & bodywork january/february 2013 Believe it or not, 13 is Massage & Bodywork Editor Leslie Young's lucky number. She's excited to welcome in this New Year. contributors Canadian massage therapist, developer of Bodyworkbiz.com, and cofounder of the World Massage Conference, Eric Brown is also known as the Grand Massage Poobah. He has an insatiable appetite for learning, travel, and French food. Thirty years ago, Gloria Coppola, LMT, began her dedication to the healing arts by working to bridge the gap between complementary care and traditional medicine. She continues that work today by teaching heart-centered continuing education in Hawaiian lomilomi, serving as a health coach, and reaching out to others in times of need. Heather McCutcheon loves volleyball, introducing underserved populations to reiki, and working on her memoir. The story begins with the author as a naive girl and will end with the adventures of a woman challenging ineffective social systems by combining ancient healing techniques and modern technologies.
