FROM FACEBOOK My biggest competition is me. My body getting older and my mind getting fuller. Each day is renewed with a positive outlook but with boundaries. Enjoy each awesome moment to the fullest. MICHELLE BRTEK-GAGNER Nothing, because no one else does what I do! Massage is art and every artist paints a different canvas. DERRIE BERGERON 1. Deeply discounted massages from chains or other questionable venues. 2. Those requesting "deep tissue" (but meaning deep pressure) and trying to reeducate them to technique and effect. CARRI WRIGHT Time and guilt. People are willing to take time out of their lives to help others, but not themselves. And they feel guilty when it comes to taking the time they need to do something for themselves. They'd rather spend time with their family, friends, work, etc. And sometimes they feel guilty for having the ability to do nice things for themselves. MICHELLE LEAKE Name one thing about your practice that you will improve this year. Publication Date: July/August If you could add one more modality to your toolbox, what would it be, and why? Publication Date: Sept/Oct Email your responses to darren@abmp.com. Your submission can be as short as you'd like and up to 250 words. Upcoming Topics Medication! I understand some medications are necessary for certain conditions, and I know massage therapy doesn't fix everything. I pray people look for fewer quick fixes, more quality interventions, and recognize the many benefits of bodywork. JESSICA DUNN Truly, myself. And the hours in a day! There are endless possibilities in this profession and that diversity is what keeps me engaged. If I only had a marketing team to bring forth all I envision! Next step, find a good graphic designer to work with. JOAN MERRIMAN Inflammation. Educating clients about why they hurt. Repetitive motion, sitting at a desk, long commutes, weakness, poor diet, etc. CARLA JUNG CAMPBELL The education we get/requirements compared to Canadians. I took advanced anatomy and physiology classes at a university, as well as classes at the hospital to make up for it. EMMA BARKO Chiropractors who mainly do soft-tissue work and can accept insurance (I live in Indiana). CHUCK PEASE Negative news about massage. LATONYA BRINSON States that allow relaxation massages without licenses. BRIAN BURWELL My clients' time. Getting them to make themselves enough of a priority to get on my table. LINDSAY JUAREZ My biggest competition is trying to attract therapists to work for me instead of a franchise! NICOLE CANADY FROM TWITTER Myself! Using my time and marketing efforts inefficiently by getting caught up in "details and perfection." @JULIETTEWILKCMT Weak marketing, lack of time, time management, and therapists with more knowledge. @MWSOLUTIONSLLC
