reader forum WHAT YOU ARE SAYING "Some readers might find this jargony or intimidating, so I wanted to speak up and say this kind of specificity is extremely helpful and clear." Mike Papciak, Berkeley, California Inclusivity is Appreciated I can't tell you how happy I am that Massage & Bodywork has included special needs in the magazine ["Special Needs Children," by Stephanie Mines, September/October 2010, page 34]. I do a lot of work with special needs adults and children. I also work with high school special needs [students] and taught them chair massage and they were able to go out and massage the Phillies' farm team, the Blue Claws. The smiles on their faces were the most rewarding of all. We had a blast. So I thank you for this article. JILL HOUSTON TOMS RIVER, NEW JERSEY Precise Language I'm a bodyworker with a private practice in California, just coming up on my fi rst year as an ABMP member. I'm grateful for the excellence and helpfulness of your publications, websites, and staff. The free webinars are terrifi c! I just fi nished the cold whiplash article ["Working with Whiplash, Part 2," page 108] in the May/June 2010 issue and want to say how much I appreciate the precision of [Til Luchau's] writing. For example: "Using the proximal knuckles ... catch the outer layers of the neck, just anterior and superfi cial to the SCM belly." Some readers might fi nd this jargony or intimidating, so I wanted to speak up and say this kind of specifi city is extremely helpful and clear. Reading this phrase, I'm able to follow Luchau's recommendations exactly. It amazes me how many otherwise excellent bodywork resources describe the work with unclear terms like below, behind, etc., when just 10 or so classic anatomical directions (anterior, posterior, superfi cial, deep, lateral, medial, superior, inferior, proximal, distal) leave nothing unclear. Please continue this fi ne balance of technical how-to articles (the Active Engagement piece ["Active Engagement Techniques," by Whitney Lowe, page 32] in the same issue was also good) alongside the lighter pieces on networking, client demographics, etc. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
