Massage Envy Acquisition, Partnership Private equity firm Sentinel Capital, Inc., has acquired Massage Envy, LLC, for an undisclosed price. Sentinel develops middle-market companies in North America, targeting restaurants, consumer products, manufacturing, and service businesses. Veria, a natural health and wellness company, previously acquired Massage Envy in 2008. Corinthian Colleges, Inc., (which operates more than 100 schools in the United States and Canada and is the parent company of Everest Universities, Everest Institutes, and Everest Colleges) formed a partnership with Massage Envy, which will provide conditional employment to all Everest massage therapy graduates. Everest will incorporate Massage Envy's requirements into its curriculum. In Memoriam KATHIE KING Kathlyn "Kathie" King died January 17 in Chicago after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was 61. In September, Kathie and her husband Bob King received the first annual Performance Health/Massage Therapy Foundation Humanitarian Award for their compassionate dedication within the profession. In 1994, as a student at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, King won a Community Outreach Award for her volunteer efforts with drug-exposed infants. She most recently worked at a Cortiva professional clinic and maintained a private practice. AUNTY MARGARET Renowned lomilomi master Aunty Margaret Kalehuamakanoelu'ulu'uonapali Machado died December 28 in her Kona, Hawaii, home. She was 93. Born August 21, 1916, Machado was given her grandfather's blessing to be a kahuna (healer in Hawaiian). Despite criticism from others to keep the healing art within the community, Machado was the first to teach lomilomi to non- Hawaiians and is credited for giving lomilomi a name globally. In 1986 she was named one of "Hawaii's Living Treasures" by the Hongwanji Mission.
