The psoas major attaches from the anterolateral bodies of T12–L5 and the transverse processes of L1–L5 to the lesser trochanter of the femur. It has an abdominal (abdominopelvic) belly in the abdominal (abdominopelvic) cavity and a femoral belly in the thigh. The division between the abdominal and femoral bellies is the inguinal ligament that attaches from the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) to the pubic tubercle (see Image 12). Permission Joseph E.
